Hello Upward Bound! I am extremely excited to be teaching you this summer and I hope that you will gain a significant amount of knowledge that you can take with you throughout your high school and college careers. This will be my third summer with Upward Bound and I am thrilled that I have the opportunity to teach you. I have put together this syllabus that will outline what we will be covering throughout our time together. If you have any questions or are seeking extra help I am available Monday-Thursday at the end of the day to meet by appointment. You may email me at [email protected]. There is also a website I created for our class and the program. This website will have information regarding our class and some class activities that will take place through this technology: www.upwardboundbasgall.weebly.com. This year we will be stationary and be meeting in the same room, C-04. A map of the campus is provided on the website!
Supplies:
On the ACT there are three out of five areas that focus on English, Writing and Reading. English is an important part of our work in Upward Bound as the subject is focused on three times more than the other subjects on the ACT examination. We will be honing our English, writing and reading skills through mini-units that will introduce you to various texts and required common assessments at the high school level. At the end of the program students will create a project that will focus on one of the areas of study through a mini-unit introduced to them. I will be preparing students not only for ACT material but also for material that will be introduced to them int heir next year of high school. By teaching this way I hope that students will go into their next year of high school with confidence and comfort in already knowing what will be expected of them on common assessments that are required in order to either move on to the next grade level or graduate.
